Andrew Hunter has been the band director at Wauconda Middle School since 2007. The Band Program at WMS consists of the 6th Grade Beginning Band, the 7th Grade Concert Band, the 8th Grade Symphonic Band, the Jazz Band, and a pull-out lesson program. Bands meet every day, and students participate in a robust small-group lesson program each week. Under Mr. Hunter's direction the program has grown in size from 51 students in 2007 to 180 in 2014.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Hunter is an active professional trumpet player in the Chicago area. He is currently the soprano cornetist with the international award-winning Chicago Brass Band, who placed 5th at the 2013 World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Netherlands. He also plays trumpet with the Gargoyle Brass, a chamber ensemble specializing in music for brass and organ, and the Palatine Concert Band.
Mr. Hunter attended Western Illinois University, where he studied trumpet with Drs. Bruce Briney and Luis Loubriel and conducting with Drs. Jon Dugle and Mike Fansler.
